4. Travel Insurance

Consider travel insurance in addition to your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for added protection against flight cancellations and some medical costs.

5. Money

Have some Australian currency on hand. Check with your bank about ATM withdrawals in Australia and consider opening an Australian bank account to save on fees.

6. Accommodation

Arrange your accommodation for at least the first few nights and have the address ready for your incoming passenger card. If you are under 18, ensure you have adequate welfare arrangements.

7. Transport to Accommodation

Plan how to get to
your accommodation from the airport or station, including check-in procedures
for late arrivals.

9. Hand Luggage

Pack a change of clothes, toiletries, essential documents (passport, visa), a pen, any prescription medication, and emergency contact details.

10. Arrival Expectations

Upon arrival, go through immigration and customs. Fill out the incoming passenger card provided during your flight.

Stay updated on travel requirements via the Department of Home Affairs website. Check airline and transit country COVID-19 regulations.

12. Permitted Items

Familiarise yourself with Australia’s strict border controls and biosecurity laws. Visit the Australian Border Force website for details.
